Studying architecture from the point of view of the archeologist means, first and foremost, acquiring a thorough knowledge of their history. Compared with the structure of the three-year degree course, the aim of this course will be to learn about the archeological study of architecture in contexts that are larger than one single building, so as to understand several different aspects of the built feature, starting with the material evidence. The first part of the course will consist in a brief overview of the instruments of investigation used by this method of study. Later, the course will illustrate the main parameters that indicate the most significant historical phenomena, such as the characteristics of the building site and its organization, the technical skills of the builders themselves, and the people who commissioned the construction of the buildings, in relation to the wider economic, social and political context.
