HMP Frankland officer Stephanie Smithwhite, 40, admitted two counts of misconduct in a public office over a six-month sexual relationship with the gangster and failing to report that he had access to a smuggled phone. Durham Crown Court heard how Smithwhite, from Boldon Colliery, South Tyneside, had cut a hole in the crotch of her work trousers, as well as getting a tattoo of the gangster's name beside a rose.
Following the scandalous admission, The Liverpool Echo looked back over Warren's infamous past. He'd stolen a car, but soon graduated to even more serious crime including armed robbery. A stint as a Liverpool doorman followed, but Warren soon became involved in the murky world of international drug smuggling. In January Warren was a defendant in a complex drugs' trial at Newcastle Crown court alongside associate Brian Charrington. In the mid s Liverpool became embroiled in gang war, after fatal shooting of a businessman led to scores of shootings between two rival gangs across the city.
Warren was said to have become involved in the fall-out through his friendship with a man called Johnny Phillips. Mr Phillips, who survived an attempt on his life, later died of a heart attack. The ferocious conflict and increase police activity apparently led to Warren's departure for Holland, relocating to a sleepy village deep in the Dutch countryside.
But officials in the UK and Holland joined forces to smash Warren's drugs' business. An elite police unit later stormed the farmhouse he was staying in, where they seized MDMA, 1,kg of cannabis, guns, three hand grenades and canisters of CS gas. But when Guclu came back at Warren, the Liverpool man is said to have kicked convicted killer Guclu in the head. The man later died from his injuries, while Warren, who claimed to have acted in self- defence, was jailed for a further four years.
On his release from the Netherlands in , it seems that Warren was not looking to turn over a new leaf. After a three-week trial a jury found Warren and his associates guilty. Watching evens of his sentencing unfold via video link, the gangster remained almost unmoved as he was handed a year sentence. He simply closed the book he had been reading for much of the proceedings and walked out with prison guards behind him.
In the Liverpool Echo reported that one of Warren's sworn enemies had accidentally been moved into the same prison as him. Who puts those two anywhere near each other with their history? They claimed he was able to get hold of cocaine from South America, heroin from Turkey and Iran, and cannabis from Morocco, selling the drugs on from Liverpool, Brazil, Moscow, Swaziland and Australia.
In former prison counsellor Teresa Rodrigues told a Sunday newspaper that she fell in love with him while working as a senior manager at La Moye prison in Jersey. She left her job at La Moye in to return to Lisbon. But But Anthony Baraclough, Warren's barrister, insisted her claims were "nonsense" and the only involvement he had with her was through his work in a prison anti-drugs campaign,.
It has upset his family and his girlfriend. Curtis is very concerned this may have a detrimental effect on his appeal against the confiscation order. Yes, he did help prisoners to read and write. He was regarded as extremely high risk. By Tom Duffy. Hannah Graham.
