Great book and delivered very quickly. This book was my first exposure to Elder Cleopa Ilie of Sihastria, and I am glad that it was. Elder Cleopa was a Romanian monk who grew up in a very pious family and became the greatest modern example of Orthodox spirituality in Romania among the country's many 20th Century elders.
The problem with most lives of the saints today is that they are poor translations of books that are best-sellers in their original language. This makes reading otherwise very enjoyable books somewhat of a chore as one struggles to discover the meaning of confusing sentences or phrases that cannot be translated directly. This book, however, is a great pleasure to read; in fact, it reads quickly and smoothly, removing any stumbling blocks one might have in trying to enjoy the narrative of Elder Cleopa's life.
The book is packed full of pictures, which not only makes the reading even faster but provides visual aides to the many figures mentioned - including other contemporary Romanian elders such as Elder Paisie Olaru -fueling further interest in the reader to study them.
The book provides both a life of Elder Cleopa and many of his teachings, and it is packed full of stories of his God-granted gifts, such as his incredible clairvoyance and deep prayer life. Elder Cleopa was a true man-of-God, a miracle worker, and a saint. This life is a wonderful introduction to him and would be perfect for anyone interested in the lives of the saints, contemporary Orthodox elders, the Orthodox Church, or Romanian spirituality. Paisius Velichkovsky" with a great deal of additions make by Mother Cassiana.
I will read it soon, but I suspect that the additions are all worthwhile. Either way, owning both versions may be worth it since the version reviewed here would be a joy to read in just a day or two.
This was an order for two more copies of a book I enjoyed I read this in preparation for a trip to Romania, where I visited the monastery of Elder Cleopa and the museum in his former cell dedicated to him. The book is well written, but it is the subject matter that is arresting.
This book is likely a step toward his sainthood, for which the Orthodox do not have such stringent tests as the Catholics This is an easy to read book that really touched me. Elder Cleopa seems destined to be recognized as a modern day saint. This book gives biographical information on his life and shares many of his counsels and experiences.
It includes dozens of photographs, as well. I'll be reading this one over and over again! Go to Amazon. Back to top. Get to Know Us. Shopbop Designer Fashion Brands. Alexa Actionable Analytics for the Web. DPReview Digital Photography.
Rating: 9,3 Votes: 7. All passions can, let's say, be excused due to nature and bad life circumstances; but pride cannot be justified by anything! It has an unbearable insolence—it attaches itself to any virtue if it can, and it even hides behind humility, which serves as its shield. We see this very often, and to prove what I am saying, it is as one father said: "That proud one is so humble! Archimandrite Ioanichie Balan. Rating: 9,9 Votes: 7.
